Planet Earth–Sand Art Instructable
April 19, 3 PM
In honor of Earth Month, join us for a virtual meet up, where we will create awesome sand art while learning about the different layers of the Earth.
All you need to participate is:
- 1 coloring worksheet–link to print your own worksheet will be posted one week before the event
- 1 bottle of school glue
- Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue & Green food coloring
- 3-4 cups of salt
- 5 Ziploc sandwich bags

Earth Day Trivia for Kids
April 22, 4-5pm
Test your knowledge of Planet Earth and the ways we care for it in this online trivia challenge. We’ll have 2 rounds: recycling and energy use AND the Earth’s physical features . We will using both Zoom and Kahoot. You will need a mobile device to play or you may split your PC screen. Presented by the WO-LF Pack, the children’s librarians of the White Oak and Little Falls libraries. Recommended for grades 3-5.

The Cicadas Are Coming!

Join retired biologist and Montgomery County resident, Clarence Hickey for a lecture and discussion about the area’s 17-year periodical cicada.
Montgomery County is home to a brood of 17-year periodical cicadas. They visited us with great gusto in 1987 and in 2004. Expect to see them in May and June of 2021. They rise out of the ground in an enormous, frightening mass. Yet, these cicadas are not dangerous; they do not sting, bite or carry diseases. And, they do not eat garden vegetables! Their emergence from underground provides us with a rare opportunity to observe them close-up. Look for them, especially on and around trees. Our stable, tree-filled environment makes their cohabitation with us possible. In this PowerPoint lecture, Clarence Hickey examines the intersection of cicada natural history and our human history.
