Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL), an urban and diverse library system with 21 locations serving a population of 1 million residents, seeks an innovative and dynamic individual to expand and transform services, programs, and resources for teens ages 12 to 18. The Teen Services Program Manager (Program Manager I) will: - Work with branch staff to develop teen services in alignment with the MCPL strategic goal of ensuring that teens are ready for college and/or the workforce, and to be lifelong users of the library.
- Lead community-wide outreach activities, such as the Teen component of the Summer Reading Challenge.
- Develop new and rich teen programs in a variety of areas including STEM, career development, digital, financial and health literacy, and use of library resources.
- Represent MCPL on local, state, and national organizations that address issues concerning teens.
- Establish a systemwide Teen Advisory Board (TAB) and support branches in establishment of local TABs.
This position reports to the Assistant Director, Programs and Outreach, and provides technical expertise and leadership to staff by mentoring, coaching, assigning, and evaluating work; as well as developing, planning, and implementing traditional, virtual, and cutting-edge programs, resources, and services for teens ages 12 to 18. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Additional pay may be available for bi-lingual languages other than English. To qualify for multilingual pay, applicants will be required to successfully pass a multilingual examination. Hours for this position are: Library hours of operation are 7 days a week including nights, days, and weekends. Employees are expected to be available for work during these times. Individual schedules, including nights and weekends, will vary based on branch operational needs. - Knowledge of Young Adult literature for teens ages 12 to 18.
- Experience overseeing development, planning, and implementation of traditional, virtual, and innovative programs, resources, and services for teens ages 12 to 18.
- Experience developing and maintaining collaborative relationships and partnerships with community organizations, County departments, and agencies.
- Experience supervising staff and leading staff project teams.
- Experience developing and presenting staff training in teen development, learning and library resources for teens.
